govCMS uses open source technology (Drupal) paired with an open cloud platform provided by Acquia. This commitment to an open approach enables people across government and beyond to come together and contribute to making govCMS better.
govCMS is created for government, by government, and is driven by the needs of agencies and their end users. If govCMS doesn’t have something you need, tell us – chances are there are other agencies that need the same thing! govCMS believes in constant iteration to meet the changing needs of its users.
govCMS supports the “create once, use often” principle and encourages agencies to share any new features created to support their sites. For example, the Department of Communications recently developed a “Have your say” consultation module that is now available to all govCMS users for no extra charge. No more duplication of cost, time and effort, and new features become available to agencies that might not have had the means to purchase them individually.
By developing our departmental website in govCMS we are gaining the benefits of a cloud hosting solution and we will be able to share new modules designed to enhance policy consultation and engagement, with other members of the govCMS community.
